Laminate Flooring Tools and Supplies

We become what we behold. We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us.

What you need to install a laminate floor

Laminate flooring is considered a beginner level DIY project, but there may be some tools needed that you don’t have in the garage. Here is
the required gear:PFCandKIT

  • Tape Measure and Pencils
  • Laminate Flooring (How Much do You Need?)
  • Underlayment
  • Flooring Cutter – such as a PFC or a miter saw
  • Transition strips
  • Trim and moldings (If you are not reusing old trim)

While preparing, consider whether you’ll need any special tools.  Are there door jambs or odd corners that will require special cuts to your flooring?  Do the manufacturer’s instructions advise the use of a tapping block?  Is the subfloor uneven?  Are you installing over concrete?  If you answered yes to any of these, you may need additional tools:

  • 4-mil Plastic Sheeting (for installing over cement)
  • Spacers
  • Tapping Block
  • Pull/Pry bar
  • Undercut Saw
  • Table Saw or Jig saw
  • Knee Pads
  • Hammer
  • Utility Knife
  • Straight edge or Level
  • Finish nails
  • Filler putty
  • Tape (Duct tape or wide masking tape)

Once you have gathered all the essential tools and supplies, its time to prepare for installation.
